Route map & sections
Wellington Waterfront→Ngauranga→Petone→Days Bay→Pencarrow
This route starts with the Wellington Waterfront to Ngauranga section that leaves the shoreline till you get to the wonderful Te Ara Tupua shared path that runs between Ngauranga and Petone. From Petone it is on to Days Bay, initially via Seaview and then along the beautiful Tupua Horo Nuku shared path to Days Bay. After that it is the final section to Pencarrow via Eastbourne.
The distances given here do not include the return trip from Pencarrow. You can catch the #81 or #83 bus back to Wellington from Eastbourne, in which case it is 7½km return distance. Or you can bike back to Days Bay and from there take the East by West ferry back to Wellington, in which case the return distance from Pencarrow to Days Bay is 11km. Note you’ll need to do a prior booking for yourself and your bike.
The times provided do not take into account wind conditions. The section from Eastbourne to Pencarrow is exposed and can be very slow work when there is a strong northerly or southerly wind. People have been blown off their bikes along here!
