ROUTE GUIDES
There are currently 4 main sections that make up the 40Km long ‘Great Harbour Way Today’ route from Miramar Cutting or the airport to Pencarrow Lighthouse. These sections provide excellent off-road walking & cycling facilities. Most of the route is flat. The only substantial climb is up to the Pencarrow Lighthouse at the end.
You can do 1 or more sections depending on your itinerary and start from either direction. To keep things simple, we assume a clockwise travel around the harbour

WELLINGTON WATERFRONT – TE ARA TUPUA (7km)

TE ARA TUPUA – PETONE (7KM)

PETONE – EASTBOURNE (18KM)
The extended route
Our vision for the Great Harbour Way is the full 90km route from Red Rocks to Baring Head. We will continue to advocate for this. In the meantime, this extended route can be done if you are happy that cyclists will need to share the road with vehicles for part of it. These are the two extended sections.
