Extend your experience of the Great Harbour Way

These sections do not yet provide the fantastic, separated walking & cycling infrastructures that the main Great Harbour Way route has but are worth doing because of the fantastic wild scenery that you will experience.

Owhiro Bay to Sinclair Head: 7½km return
Owhiro Bay to Seatoun: 14km
Seatoun to Miramar Wharf: 10km
Pencarrow to Baring Head: 5km (10km return)

Routes

Owhiro Bay – Sinclair Head

A 7½-kilometer return trip along the south coast, following the Red Rocks trail. Great rock formations, a seal colony (in the winter), and wonderful views over the Cook Strait to the South Island.

Owhiro Bay – Seatoun

A 14-kilometer trip that carries on along the south coast, passing through a number of lovely bays before crossing over a hill to the shoreline along the entrance of the harbour and finishing at the Seatoun wharf.

Seatoun – Miramar Wharf

This 10-kilometer trip starts at Seatoun Wharf and takes you around the wonderful Miramar Peninsula with views of the west side of the harbour and over to harbour itself.

Pencarrow – Baring Head

A shorter 7-kilometer trip that takes you from the Pencarrow Lighthouse to the Baring Head Lighthouse with its fantastic views of the entrance of the harbour and over to the South Island. Permission is required from the Greater Wellington Regional Council park ranger to cross the private land.
